Jervis Bay
Table of Contents
This is where beach dreams come true! Get ready for a thrill on your journey between Sydney and Melbourne (and vice versa). The magnificent Jervis Bay is a bay of paradise on Australia’s southeast coast. It is home to the superb Booderee National Park and the beautiful Hyams Beach. Hyams Beach is the name of the coastal town.
This is one of the whitest beaches in the world; its snow-white sand sparkles in the sunlight like a diamond. The crystal clear turquoise water complements this fantastic picture. However, Hyams Beach is not the only beach worth visiting in the bay. The bay boasts all sorts of coastlines of incomparable beauty. For example, Chinamans Beach shines in all its glory just metres from Hyams Beach.
Just a 5-minute drive from this famous dream beach, you’ll also find other idyllic white beaches in Booderee National Park – and kangaroos, if you’re lucky.
The main attractions in Jervis Bay
Hyams Beach
What a magical place! This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. Hyams Beach! Brilliant white sand meets crystal clear turquoise water. This fabulous 2.8km beach is in Jervis Bay, just under 3 hours’ drive from Sydney. The small town along the coastline is also named after it.
Even though this long stretch of coastline is very lively, you will find a quiet spot. Especially on weekdays, and if you avoid Australia’s holiday periods and public holidays, you’re guaranteed to find a quiet corner in paradise. A must-see!
Chinamans Beach
The gorgeous Chinamans Beach is just a short walk from its gorgeous big brother, Hyams Beach. Located at the northern end of the village, it also boasts white sand and crystal-clear water. As with the rest of Jervis Bay, I recommend paying attention.
You may spot a sea creature or two between the waves. For example, dolphins, stingrays or sharks. During the official whale season, from mid-May to November, whales even migrate along the coast. The chances of seeing whales are exceptionally high in Jervis Bay in late June/July and September/October. The small bay is also ideal for snorkelling thanks to its clear waters. Simply put, it’s a great place and one of Australia’s most beautiful tourist destinations!
Booderee National Park
Cave Beach
The famous Cave Beach graces the southern coast of Booderee National Park. Although it is no longer located in Jervis Bay, this does not detract from its beauty. The waves in Wreck Bay are also turquoise and lap the golden white beach. When the weather is a little worse, and the waves are higher, Cave Beach attracts many surfers.
Dolphins are regularly spotted on its shores, and this beach paradise attracts many visitors on weekends and public holidays. But if you avoid these periods, you will find a peaceful and tranquil idyll. And who knows… you might even see a kangaroo or two near the beach.
Hole in the wall
Hole in the Wall is located on the northeast coast of Booderee National Park in Jervis Bay. As in the rest of this paradise bay, you will find a beautiful sandy beach and crystal clear water. The hole in the wall is also a great photo opportunity.
Set amidst the pristine beauty of Booderee National Park, this spot marks a polished opening between white sandstone cliffs. Stroll along the beach to reach this magnificent natural work of art.
Scottish Rocks
Jervis Bay has one dream beach after another! Scottish Rocks Beach is another natural gem. Even on cloudy days, I couldn’t get enough of this snow-white paradise and turquoise-blue water. This beach is also a trendy snorkelling spot.
The magnificent underwater world of Booderee National Park is waiting for you here, not far from the rocky platform. If you are lucky, you will find colourful fish, starfish stingrays and turtles. In short, it’s a great place to visit!
