In this article, you’ll learn all about the highlights of the beautiful Murramarang National Park on the east coast of Australia! Plus, insider tips.
Discovering kangaroos in the wild in Australia? That’s probably the dream of many travellers in the beautiful land Down Under. Yours too? If so, I’ve got great news for you! In this national park on the southern east coast of Australia, the chances of seeing Australia’s national animal in the wild – up close and personal – are wonderful.
We’re talking about Murramarang National Park. It is located around 280 kilometres from Sydney. It offers its visitors not only the free-roaming ‘roos’, as the animals are affectionately known in Australia, but also plenty of beautiful beaches. Pebbly Beach, for example. At dawn and dusk, you are likely to be treated to a great sight.
The kangaroos hop across the beach or enjoy eating grass in the neighbourhood of Pebbly Beach. As the animals are used to us humans, they are usually not bothered by our presence. At Maloneys Beach – a little further south near the coastal town of Batemans Bay – the chances of encountering many of these furry marsupials are also very good. A wonderful experience!
In short, the trip to Murramarang National Park is worth it! It is an absolute must-see, especially on the route from Sydney to Melbourne and vice versa.

Admittedly, Maloneys Beach is no longer located directly in Murramarang National Park. However, it is only a short distance from its border. I’m including it here because of this location and the high probability of seeing many kangaroos up close.
It’s quite a spectacle to suddenly find yourself standing on a grey-speckled, lush green meadow. The grey speckles, in turn, quickly turn out to be the Australian national animal! What a joy!
